Tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) dichloride hexahydrate ([Ru(bipy)₃]Cl₂·6H₂O) is a photoredox catalyst and photosensitiser with a metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption near 450 nm and luminescent emission near 620 nm. Widely used in studies of photoinduced electron transfer, in electrochemiluminescence (ECL) detection methods, and as a reference photosensitiser in solar energy conversion research.
