Description
Sodium azide (NaN₃) is used as a bacteriostatic preservative in biological buffers and enzyme preparations to prevent microbial growth during storage. Also used in the Winkler dissolved oxygen method (azide modification) to eliminate nitrite interference. Handle with care — toxic, and reacts with heavy metals to form explosive metal azides in drain traps; flush plumbing with large volumes of water after disposal.
