Paraformaldehyde is a solid polymeric form of formaldehyde used as a convenient, storable source of formaldehyde in the laboratory. Used for fixation of biological tissues for histology, electron microscopy, and immunofluorescence; in synthesis of phenolic and amino resins; and where preparation from formalin or formaldehyde gas is impractical. Reagent grade ensures controlled formaldehyde content. Requires handling in a fume cupboard.
